Help with virtual optical device

Hi

My P6 server is with dual vio servers. From the below output we could see that cd devices(cd0 and cd1) has been mapped to the vio client named prdsapfi1.

When we execute "lsdev -Cc cdrom" in prdsapfi1 there are 2 cd devices named cd0 and cd1 showing up in available state.

Code:

===========================================================================
prdsapfi1:/ # lsdev -Cc cdrom
cd0 Available  Virtual SCSI Optical Served by VIO Server
cd1 Available  Virtual SCSI Optical Served by VIO Server
===========================================================================

My question is how to find out if cd0 showing up in prdsapfi1 has been coming from vioprd01p or vioprd01i?

Code:

===========================================================================
$ hostname
vioprd01p
===========================================================================
$ lsvopt | grep -i prdsapfi1
prdsapfi1_cdrom    No Media                                    n/a

$ oem_setup_env
===========================================================================
# lsdev -Cc cdrom
cd1 Defined 05-08-01-0,0 16 Bit LVD SCSI DVD-RAM Drive

Code:

$ hostname

AIX How to run a Shell Script by changing the User

Hi All,

Currently our application is running on the server having AIX 5.3 OS.

What we intend to do is to run a shell script owned by another user and needs to be run as that particular user.

I was trying to create a shell script using the su command before running the actual script (which will be executed from the new script). The su command always prompt for a password. Is there any way we can put that in the shell script so that there is no user prompt.

Also please guide if there is any better methodologies to achieve this.

Thanks

I am on AIX 6.1, and need to find out who has not accessed the system within 1, 2, or 3 months depending upon the filter I specify.

The output I need to have is the account name and the last time accessed:

i.e.

kart Mar 27 05:13 - 05:13 (00:00)

Please advise.

Not able to redirect output of command

Hi All,.
We are using AIX as the OS to host the Oracle ERP. We have a command FNDLOAD which is used to load setups. When this command is run, it outputs names of log files and any errors to the screen.

I am trying to redirect this output to a file because we have large number of these commands running from a script and would like to log them.

I can redirect normal echo commands to a file without a problem, but the output of this command is not getting redirected.

I tried >, >>, |, | tee till now. None of it works. Any solution?

[Solved] how to Enable VxDMP & Disable MPIO?

Hello people.
I am new to AIX & dealing with VxDMP.

The server has AIX 7.1, storage is Hitachi. I have 4 paths from my server to the array. However, the vxdmp shows only single path. I went through some discussions & realized that it is because of MPIO.

Then,
I did following -

* Uninstalled Vx Stack
* Removed disks using rmdev -dl disk
* Installed the Object Data Manager (ODM) definitions for the devices on the host. (Hitachi)
* Reboot server
* Re-Install Vx

Still no avail! Only single path is seen.
Am I missing something?

---------- Post updated at 05:01 AM ---------- Previous update was at 03:23 AM ----------

We nailed it!

Some mistake on my part.

>> Installed the Object Data Manager (ODM) definitions for the devices on the host. (Hitachi)

Apparently, I had installed "MPIO ODM" instead of "non-MPIO ODM's"

Uninstalling the MPIO ODM & installing non-MPIO ODMs (followed by cfgmgr) solved the issue.

Can only ls 50 file on NFS mount?

Please can anybody help me with this weird behaviour.

There are 2 x-servers running Fedora 16 work as a cluster with DRBD, corosync & pacemaker. The cluster exports a filesystem using the following statement in /etc/exports
Code:

/drbd/home      10.49.17.0/255.255.255.0 fsid=1,rw,no_root_squash,no_acl,mountpoint)
This directory is then NFS mounted on various machines using automount.
The problem is that on 2 AIX machines running 32bit 5.2 & 5.3 whichever user, even root, does an ls on the mounted directory the error message "ls: out of memory" is returned when there are more than 50 files.
This problem does not occur on machines running Fedora 16, 64bit AIX5.3 or even a very old machine running AIX3.2.5.

The same automount event is used on all the AIX5 machine whether 32 or 64 bit.
Code:

/home/ANS      -rw,bg,soft,sec=sys,noacl,ver=3 nfssv:/drbd/home
Any ideas would gratefully received.

So if I do the NFS mount as version 2 on the 2 problem machines, then there isn't a 50 file limit.

SNMPv3 error - Help please!

Hello everyone:
I'm still relatively new to AIX administration and learning every day. I need to configure SNMPv3 in several servers. I tried first on a "test environment" server, no firewalls, and I was successful.
Then I moved on to the "production" servers, which are behind firewall and I can't make SNMPv3 work! I checked the firewall and the ports 161 and 162 are open and traffic is allowed.
The settings are exactly the sme in both environments.
This is an example of what I get in the production servers:

Code:

> clsnmp -h user1 walk system
clsnmp: 1473-402 Error return from SnmpRecvMsg().

When I run the same command in debug mode, I get this error:

Code:

P1: wsnmp_com.c( 128): Call session callback, request 1 (1 app), error 199
P1: clsnmp.c(1283): In HandleSnmpResponse()
P1: clsnmp.c(1291): calling SnmpRecvMsg with SessionHandle 1
P1: wsnmp_com.c(1902): In SnmpRecvMsg for session 1
E3: wsnmp_com.c(1920): Global global_error_code set to 199 (><SNMPAPI_TL_OTHER - Undefined transport layer error.)
E3: wsnmp_com.c(1920): Session 1 local error_code set to 199 (><SNMPAPI_TL_OTHER - Undefined transport layer error.)

Any ideas? I've been trying to figure this out for two days with no success! :wall:

Thank you.

VIO Server connected to switch port and running with half duplex speed on one of the shared ethernet adapter. We have verified at switch end and everythings looks good.
Other ethernet adapter in the VIO server are connected and running in Full duplex speed.

Please help me find why this shared ethernet adapter is having half duplex speed and how to fix this back to full duplex.

Sometime back it was running as full duplex and recently there were no changes/upgrades on both switch and VIO server level.

Code:

multibos - can I remove hd5 if booted from bos_hd5

$

Hi,

I'd like to know - can I simply remove all the standard OS lvs - ie hd2, hd5, hd9var, hd10opt hd4, while the system is running on multibos bos_ lv's, and then re-run multibos to re-create the standard lvs?

I'm having an odd problem with a multibos installation.
The system is currently running on the bos_hd5.
I'd like to do a new multibos clone prior to doing an OS update, but multibos won't let me, saying "Maximum number of standby BOS installations already exist".

multibos -R also exits with the following errors:

multibos: 0565-080 Error reading LVCB attribute "fs,mb" of logical volume
bos_hd5.
multibos: 0565-082 Unable to verify multibos tag for standby BOS logical volume
bos_hd5
multibos: 0565-084 Error processing primary boot partition.
multibos: 0565-002 ATTENTION: cleanup did not complete successfully.

I would just reboot back to the other "standard" hd5 image, and start again from there, but it appears that hd4 is missing, so I'd expect a reboot to that image will fail.

So, can I simply remove all the standard OS lvs - ie hd2, hd5, hd9var, hd10opt (and hd4 if it was there), while the system is running on the bos_ lv's, and then re-run multibos?

Will this default to re-creating the standard lvs from the current bos_ lvs?

Are the bos_ lvs and the standard lvs truly equivalent? Or do I risk losing some vital information by doing this?

TIA, Alan.

[Solved] Configure VIOS SEA w. load sharing

$

I am trying to install a VIOS pair with a load-sharing SEA adapter, following this recipe from Developerworks. Without load-sharing everything went fine and worked as expected, but somehow i am a bit lost and the first tries with "ha_mode=sharing" didn't work at all.

Here is the situation:

I have one VIOS pair and in each VIOS i have one SEA contructed from 2 physical Ethernet Adapters (10G-Ethernet). The adapters (ent0 and ent1) as well as the SEA (ent2) work testedly well, as did the control-channel.

From the "outside" i have several VLAN IDs, "internal" i have only one (which might change, we build the machine right now).

What i tried to achieve was to have the SEA of the second VIOS share the load instead of having an idle stand-by. I wanted to base the load-sharing on the external VLAN IDs (VIOS 1 serving ext. VLANs A, C, E, ... and VIOS 2 serving ext. VLANs B, D, F, ...). For this i created one virtual adapter for each external VLAN on the SEA and tried to switch on load-sharing, but got no communication.

I suspect that i somehow missed the proper VLAN layout and confused internal and external VLANs somehow in my HMC definitions. Maybe someone has already done that and can shed some light on this. Some step-by-step how-to would be appreciated.

Another question is: how do i create additional internal VLANs and put them on this setup? Right now there is no need for additional VLANs but this requirement might well change over time.

Thanks for your help.

VIO and LPAR disk/fcs communications

:wall::wall::wall:

1. I have created an LPAR in the HMC.
2. I have allocated the storage from an Hitachi AMS2500 and assigned it to the host group.
3. I have zoned the LPAR and Storage on a Brocade 5100. (The zone sees the AMS)

Next I activated the LPAR in the HMC, SMS mode for the mksysb load.

Then I re-activated the LPAR in SMS mode again with the same results.

I have triple checked the WWNs in the Storage and Zoning.
I have performed the above several times.
I don't know where I am going wrong as this is the procedure I have used many times before. I could use some trouble shooting help in regards to this issue.

Thanks

Hello!

I have a LPAR with 51GB RAM

topas shows 21% of memory for client pages (~11Gb)
svmon -G show 2906772 client pages in use (~11Gb)

but then i try to investigate per process client memory usage
Code:

svmon -P -O filtertype=client
and summarize inuse column, i get only 347880 pages total(~1,3Gb)

there is difference or what did i do wrong?
Thanks in advice

Switch Port Becoming Private & restricting access

Hello folks,
I have an AIX server that is connected to a storage array via a Brocade switch using 4 ports from either side. The zoning is done such that there are 4 paths visible from the server to the storage.

My work involves frequent disabling or enabling the switch ports that are connected to the server. The switch ports connected to the server usually show status as "L Port Public". When I disable a port, the status for the corresponding port becomes disabled & the server starts seeing 3 paths. Everything as desired.

The issue is when I try to re-enable it. The port then shows the status as "L Port Private" & the server can not see that particular path to the storage in-spite of the port being enabled. Moreover, if I reboot the switch then all the 4 ports show status as " L Port Private"; leaving the server with zero access to the storage.

How do I make the disappeared path appear again?

This path appears again if I reboot both, the server & switch after enabling the port.
